In order to tap into the potential of AI for health, we need to address challenges such as data confidentiality and data access. Synthetic data and generative models could aid the research community in addressing these challenges while advancing the use of AI in healthcare.

We introduce an effective strategy to generate an annotated synthetic dataset of microbiological images of Petri dishes that can be used to train deep learning models in a fully supervised fashion.
